Patrick Sarran's inspiration for KALI came from the rustic charm of the French countryside and the world of wine. The use of solid oak wood, known for its durability and resistance to rot, gives the design a sturdy and efficient appeal. The trolley is designed to be a mobile extension of the bar's functions, with bottles on the steps and hanging glasses. The bottles are secured by a non-slip coating from the world of shipbuilding, and the glasses are held by pressure on a cushion, ensuring they don't rattle when the trolley is moved.
What sets KALI apart from other designs is its durability and functionality. Designed at the request of sommeliers, it is built to withstand the heavy demands of working in a restaurant. The trolley can be refurbished over and over again, ensuring a minimal environmental footprint. This design is not just a piece of furniture; it is a tool that enhances the efficiency and elegance of service in dining rooms.
The manufacturing process of KALI is a testament to traditional cabinet making techniques. It is manufactured in small series in solid oak, using parts common to several models. The use of solid wood and mechanical assemblies ensures easy repairing or renovating the model by any joiner or cabinetmaker worldwide. The trolley is left in its natural colour or stained black, then varnished. The stairs are covered with a wear-resistant anti-slip coating, and the zipper is made of black Krion resin.
Patrick Sarran's design philosophy is evident in KALI's technical specifications. With dimensions of 600 x 600 x 950 mm, it is compact yet functional. The trolley is delivered worldwide in a sturdy, palletized cardboard box, ensuring its safe delivery to customers.
The design process of KALI was not without its challenges. Patrick Sarran had to ensure that the design remained simple enough to fit the global design of restaurants, while also being a tool to serve the products it transports. It had to evoke the world of liqueurs, a world that has a strong relationship with wood, without putting materials other than wood in the foreground. Despite these challenges, KALI emerged as a design that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Patrick Sarran's KALI is not just a tiered trolley; it is a design that embodies the essence of traditional craftsmanship and modern functionality. Its unique design and practical features have earned it the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2020, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation. KALI is a design that brings a touch of elegance and efficiency to any dining room.
